Top 9 Movies of 2009!

Why 9? its been a brilliant year that was 2009! Also a great year for movies I have to warn you, Moon isnot in my list because i havent watched it yet. Neither is Watchman, simnply because is boring shite. Anyhoo heres my top 9 films of 2009.... [br/]

9.The Hangover

When this film first came out i was going to see of course but i felt it was just another 'Dude, Wheres my Car?' or 'Old School' again. I was pleasently suprised. This was a comedy that kept you guessing what happened next. i couldnt tell you any of the actors names. Apart from Heather Graham who appears breifly. Each character is funny in their own way. If you watch this and think 'Why do people think this is so funny?' wait til the end! If you've ever woken up and not remembered the night before you will find this hilarious. why so low on the list? Well it still wasnt a classic and doesnt want to make me watch it again.

Best bit: The digital camera, at the end. If you see tihs you will find out. its huge pay off

8.The Wrestler

A film that came out at the end of 2008 for American movie goers, simialar to Slumdog Millionaire in the UK. It was released in janurary 2009 in the UK and I never saw it at the cinema. I tell you for why - all my friends i asked dint want to see it because they 'dont like wrestling' well to be honest im not an avid fan like i used to of 'sports entertainment' and i loved this film. The only other person i know who saw it said the wrestlign scenes were very violent, but if you've seen hardcore wrestling before its as expected, youtube it if you dont know what im talking about. Micky Rourke plays the character of Randy 'The Ram' Robinson very well. Its probably because he's gone through the same thing as his character. For those who dont know, Rourke took a decade out of Hollywood on the 1990s to persue a boxing career and went on a bit of a drugs binge. His last role before this film was in Domino, less said about that, the better. It is shot in a documentary style as idf we are spending the day in the life of Randy The Ram. Marissa Tomei's character is also very interesting, as a stripper in her mid to late 30s and she isnt as popular in the clubs as she once was. If you ahvent seen this- buy it, rent it, download it, lend it, whatever! its a great drama and touched a nerve when i saw which real life wrestlers helped the writers tell their stories.

Best bit: the hardcore match in CZW. Shows you how brutal independent wrestling is and how far these guys will put their bodies on the line. That's real blood by the way!

7. Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen.

Bring on the 'worst film ive ever seen' comments and the TF backlash....YAWN! Look i really REALLY enjoyed this film, much more than the first. And im a lifelong TF fan!!! dotn believe me? look at my DVD collection; you will find the animated Transfomers: The Movie - IN 2 DIFFERENT editions! Still dont beleive me? Look in my stargae cupboard. What's that? yes an original Opttimus Prime AND Megatron. Yeah boiii! Anyway although i can see why so many people hated it. The director for one is a good enough reason hate it. The amount of militarised action is also another. The racist stereotyped Jarr Jar Binks-esque twins are another. I looked past that and thought it was more like the original cartoon series in the way it was quite tongue in cheek and had a lot mor of the TF mythology worked into the script. The character of Soundwave (my personal favourite TF character in the old Toy/Cartoon line)was ahuge let down. Good news is Frank Welker voiced him, like the original. Bad news is they forgot to synthesise his voice, so he ended up sounding like Dr.Claw. DOH! all in all brillaint sequel and im looking forward to TF III in 2011!

Favourite Part: When we see Devastator has balls, no really big metal wrecking balls!

6.Star Trek

again a film i didnt expect to like by another director is think is crappy! But it totally pulled me into the Star Trek universe and introduced us to the characters from the origianl series (Kirk, Spock, Ahura, etc.)before they even know there on the Enterprise! I have to mention im not all familiar with the source material, ive only seen a couple episodes and the original films in passing so im not sure wat kind of impact this had on Trek fans. I really liked Chris Pike as the young Kirk, he was arrogant and laid back yet had a desire to lead. If im being honest there wasnt any characters that werent convincing, hell even Eric Bana was a great villain! Amust see for all sci-fi/action fans!

Favourite part: When Kirk meets Spock of the future, played by Leonard Nimoy!

5. Avatar

I dont expect less from James Cameron, one of my favourite directors. The Terminator was brilliant then he suprises us 6 years later with Judgement Day! also Aliens (sequel) and Titanic are very stunning films. That aside the hype around tihs film was based on the fact Cameron had created anew kind of camera to film IMAX/ Duel layered film on. This is the film IMAX 3D was designed for! Shame about the script though....

Best Part: most of the scenery in the IMAX 3D version is brilliant

4.Jennifer's Body

Most people were put off seeing this film because it was just anothe Megan Fox vehicle but it definatly wasnt! Written by Diablo Cody, screeenwriter of Juno. This is a really funny film and understand the horror-comedy genre hybrid. Do not see this film expecting a jumpyhorror flick, because its not, if you want suttle jokes and wanna se Megan Fox as a demon then see this! It pays homage to Evil Dead, which it was clearly inspired by and what can i say, i loved this film, I rate this higher than Avatar because i enjoyed it more and it has a better concept/script

Best Part: im tempted to write 'Megan Fox' becasue she is stunning, but i would say shes the best part because she is bloody funny! (no pun intended)

3. Bronson

When i heard they were making a feature film based on real-life prisoner Charlie Bronson (not the movie star by the way) I didnt think it was the best idea. i saw the trailer and instantly i had to see this film. It's mre about the 'Bronson' character he created in his head, told through amazing cinematography. And my new favourite actor Tom Hardy (who is appearing on Kleenex ads recenly, strangley) who should of won an oscar for this performance, no joke. When you see him you will be thinking 'Heath who?' This guy would be brillaint as The joker if they need someone to repalce the late Ledger. If you are a fan A Clockwork Orange, you will enjoy this.

Best part: Bronson's bare fist boxong bouts are very powerful cinematically

2.Inglorious Basterds

This film was pretty much flawless. A bit lengthy but still brilliant. I loved the mixed influences of 'macaroni combat' (70s Italian War films) and French New Wave with a nod classic war flicks and cult comedies. The thing that made me realise ' I love this film' isthe fact you forget Brad pitt is Brad Pitt in this epic. The finest actor in this picture is definatly Christoph Waltz as Col. Hans Landa, you will love and hate him at the same time! One word on casting though: The Jew Bear was meant to be played by Adam Sandler rather than Eli Roth. I think is Sandler did this instead of Funny People (which i havent seen yet) he might of broke fromt he 'goofy comedian' that he is typecast as. Mike myers is an unexpected memeber of the cast but plays the British sergant pretty well. Tarantino is back! (not yhat he went away, Death Proof was amazing) And i look forward to whatever his next offering is.

Best Part: Eli Roth and Brad Pitt trying to convince Landa they are Italiain, funny as well as horrifying.

and my number 1 is............

1. Dsitrict 9

Suprise hit of the year! At first i sat sdown and thought a mockumentary-drama about refugee aliens in south africa wouldnt work but they pulled this sonovabitch out of their bags. I love how they give us backgrund info on the aliens taking refuge and explain how they are seen as outcast and get called 'Prawns' by the earth humans. Vicus Van der Mere turns form the villain of the film to the protagonist gradually and we see a softer side to him. A very intrresting and well made film you will liek this if you are a fan of: Sci-fi,documentary, drama, action, comedy and animation or anything film wise really.

Best part: Watching the film.
